Stranded by JonHrubesch Stranded by JonHrubesch
I got the basic idea for this image just as I was beginning to fall to sleep. I wasn't able to shake it from my head the next day so I decided to paint it. The little guy wasn't in the original image I was thinking of but I thought he needed a friend. I had a lot of fun with this one. I love painting detailed planets, asteroids covered in craters and people and creatures in spacesuits. How can you go wrong.

I used this image [link] for reference to paint the astronaut's head. You can find more stock images like this one here [link] It was the one part of the painting that I needed to reference to get it to look right.

I have to admit though I nearly lost interest in this before I got very far into it. I was having issues with the composition that I didn't care for. But I'm glad I stuck with it. I feel like it turned out just fine in the end.

Jon, if you feel like this turned out just fine, I have to tell you the trutt. It isbn't just fine. It's down right amazingly awesome. I know, it breaks your heart, but I had to be real with you. Yeah your Kleenex, there's more I must state. Your detail towards the spacesuit, the alien and the planetary + asteroid features are superbly created. You, my friend, did a splendid job. It looks like Pixar CG graphics married claymation. You, definitely, should raise your head with pride. Go ahead. I'll let you do that, now.

Fav'd, as you should know.

Wow, you're welcome. Sorry for the typing errors. Smartphone typing doesn't always come off as "smart." The basis that you got from the original comment is completely true, though.

I think I've seen that rescue ship before somewhere, but I can't quite place it. Were you watching some other TV show or movie before you got the idea?

Oh yes, and happy birthday, btw.

Thanks for the birthday wish!

If I got the ship design from some scifi show or movie it was done subconsciously. The rescue ship was the last thing I quickly painted onto the image. It wasn't much more than just slapping down a quick shape and tossing winglets and some engines onto it. But I have seen my share of scifi so it's inevitable that I will pull ideas from things I've been influenced by in the past. :gallery:

Maybe that's WHY it looks familiar... you can't have been the first to try the "slapping down a quick shape and tossing winglets and some engines onto it" idea for a non-important ship.
