I painted this as an interior illustration for chapter two of my book The Wizards of Pangea. I'm attempting to create illustrations throughout the book. I'm not sure how far I'll make it as it will require many years to finish, but I'll give it a go anyhow. It'll be fun while it lasts and I'll have a bunch of fun fantasy paintings for my portfolio either way.
If you're interested I posted information on what it is I'm attempting to do along with a video of the 3D model I used you create this painting here: [link]
I took my time on this. I spent about a month on and off building it in 3D in Google Sketchup. I found a good view and made a screen capture that I used to paint over. Knowing that it would require a ton of detail, I made sure to take lots of breaks so I wouldn't go nuts. That's why it ended up taking me about another month to paint.
I may use my 3D model to paint other locations around the kingdom as well so it will come in handy for future paintings. My plan is to create a bunch of illustrations for my book The Wizards of Pangea. Not sure how many I will get to but I'm going to give it a try anyhow.
