Jupiter Assault by JonHrubesch Jupiter Assault by JonHrubesch
Painted on Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet. I spent many hours on and off over about four weekends to finish. The ships were built in Google Sketchup. Some cloud reference was used.

I've had this image in my mind for many years for a climatic battle to a science fiction story I wanted to create. I have obviously taken the imagery from Star Wars. My favorite location in the Star Wars universe is Cloud City, so I wanted to design a battle in a visually fantastic location such as the clouds of Jupiter. And, I know, they would all be dead from the radiation but what's the fun in that. We'll just say they all have radiation shields.

I made an update to this painting. I increased the contrast a bit, darkened things up and increased the sun rays to make it more dramatic. I hope this has improved it.

I explain a little bit of my process at: [link]

Wow, the interior of a gas planet is one of the most fascinating things I can only try to imagine. For you to actually not just make it amazing, but also beautiful and have this brilliant construction inside it...

Astounding!

Thanks!  This is a view I wish NASA would get one day.  It was inspired by artwork from the original Cosmos with Carl Sagan.  The new Cosmos with Neil Degrasse Tyson had an amazing view from just inside the big red spot of Jupiter too.  The funny thing is the big red spot has been shrinking over the years that it has been observed.
